Liow urges Wangsa Maju BN supporters to close ranks

GE14 | MCA president Liow Tiong Lai has urged BN supporters in Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency to close ranks and respect the BN spirit of consensus involving seat allocation in the area.
He said all quarters should respect the BN leadership's decision to field Yew Teong Look from MCA as the candidate for Wangsa Maju in the 14th general election on May 9 as BN had a good chance to wrest back the seat from the opposition if all the component parties work together.
“I call on all supporters to be patient because we know how they feel, but BN’s spirit of consensus is more important... all of us must work together to ensure victory for BN candidate,” he told reporters when met after the announcement of Selangor BN candidates for GE14 at State Umno building in Shah Alam today.
Liow said this in response to the call made by supporters of Wangsa Maju Umno chief Mohd Shafei Abdullah who wanted him to be fielded as the candidate for the parliamentary constituency instead of Yew as Malay voters made up 60 percent of the constituents.
There were also reports that a number non-governmental organisations including Chinese groups, have threatened to boycott the GE14 and not to vote for BN if Shafei was not fielded.
Shafei had contested the Wangsa Maju seat in GE13, but lost to PKR's Tan Kee Kwong by 5,511 votes.
On the composition of 22 MCA candidates representing BN Selangor for GE14, Liow, who is Selangor MCA chairperson, said he was happy with the composition of the overall candidates with architect Lee Yee Yuan, 28, being the youngest candidate.
He said Lee, who will be contesting Sekinchan state seat for the first time, had been a likeable candidate among the voters and BN stood a high chance wresting back the seat from three-term DAP candidate Ng Suee Lim.
