Ex-PKR Youth leader to take on Azmin in Bkt Antarabangsa

GE14 | Former PKR Kapar Youth chief Ahmad Kamarudin is slated to take on the party's deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali for the state seat of Bukit Antarabangsa in the 14th general election.
Ahmad, who held the post between 2011 and 2014, also announced his decision to quit the party effective today. He will be contesting as a Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) candidate.
According to Ahmad, his decision to contest against the caretaker menteri besar was so that voters would have the choice to “reject Azmin’s leadership in Selangor.”
“We must change the MB, my target is the MB,” he told a press conference in Bukit Antarabangsa today, after his candidacy received the blessing of PRM president Ariffin Salimon.
Azmin was announced as the party’s official candidate for Bukit Antarabangsa last night.
At the press conference, Ahmad also took aim at PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, calling her a “weak leader” who was unable to stem alleged corruption within the party – highlighting as an example the Ampang Youth chief Adam Rosly’s arrest by the MACC.
Ahmad also noted that he had become disenchanted with the party for veering away from its Reformasi roots by embracing the movement’s arch nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who now leads opposition front Pakatan Harapan.
“We used to shout ‘Undur Mahathir’ (step down Mahathir) but now we shout ‘Hidup Mahathir’ (long live Mahathir)... to me this is too much of a joke.
“The PKR leadership has become too obsessed with gaining power. Principles and struggles have been rendered mere slogans,” he said.
Other PRM candidates announced at the same press conference today were former PKR Ampang vice-chairperson Tan Hua Meng for the Ampang parliamentary seat, and former PKR Ampang committee member Norizwan Mohamed for the Lembah Jaya state seat. -Mkini
