Why is our 4G among the slowest in the world?

LETTER | On Tuesday, wireless coverage mapping specialist OpenSignal released a report entitled “The State of LTE” which claimed that the average speed of 4G in Malaysia was 14.83 megabits per second (Mbps), which is among the slowest among 88 countries in the survey.
The report said that the 4G speed in Malaysia was far behind those of neighbouring Singapore (with an average speed of 44.32 Mbps), Vietnam (21.49 Mbps), Brunei (17.48 Mbps) and Myanmar (15.56 Mbps).
If this is true, this is not a record or achievement Malaysians can be proud of.
At a time when Malaysia has a 4G penetration rate of almost 75 percent, the slow speed of our 4G compared to many of our neighbours is regrettable.
I urge Salleh Said Keruak, the communications and multimedia minister to swiftly explain why Malaysia’s 4G speeds are so slow, and what the government is going to do to ensure that 4G speeds in Malaysia will be increased.
4G users in Malaysia should rightfully experience far better speeds than what we are currently experiencing.
The government must prompt work to resolve this issue, in order to ensure that our wireless internet infrastructure is upgraded to prepare Malaysia for Industrial Revolution 4.0.
