'Only natural' for MCA to eye Malay-majority seats, says Ti

It is "only natural" for MCA to field leaders in multiracial constituencies with near or slight Malay-majority voters because it reflects BN's multiracial approach.
MCA spokesperson Ti Lian Ker said this was proof that, unlike the DAP, MCA was accepted by all races, including the majority of the Malays.
"On the contrary, DAP leaders claim to be multiracial but fear to stand in any cosmopolitan area with an equal number of Malays and Chinese voters for they know that they play on and thrive on Chinese political sentiment alone.
"Thus DAP has been selling out on its principles in a desperate exchange for Malay votes from PAS and now (Pakatan Harapan chairperson) Dr Mahathir Mohamad," Ti said in a statement today.
He said DAP should be ashamed for failing to practice multiracialism.
"Even in its party elections, DAP failed to elect a committee that is reflective of the 'multiracial' spirit and content of the nation.
"It is time for DAP to stop harping on race politics or continue to highlight the racial divide for their selfish purposes.

"While BN is trying to heal race relations by building bridges and promoting understanding, DAP continues to pitch the Chinese against the Malays," Ti added.
He was responding to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (above), who accused MCA's top brass of refusing to stand in Chinese-majority areas and instead prefer to be fielded in Malay-majority areas.
Lim cited MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who represents Bentong, deputy president Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam) and Ong Ka Chuan (Tanjung Malim) as examples.
In the 2013 general election, MCA won seven parliamentary seats, of which only one - Labis - had a clear Chinese-majority electorate.- Mkini
