Rawang route cargo services told to halt after derailment

The Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) has instructed Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to suspend the cargo service throughout the Rawang-Salak Selatan route pending investigations on cargo train derailed incident near the Bank Negara station yesterday.
In a statement today, Spad said it viewed the incident as unacceptable and had instructed KTMB to expedite investigations and submit a full report to identify the actual cause of the derailment.
“KTMB has been urged to review and improve the management procedure of its tracks to ensure the safety of its passenger.
"The commission has also instructed KTMB to hasten the upgrade of the 42-kilometre Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT), especially at the seven-kilometre track between Simpang Batu and the Kuala Lumpur Station as the track quality index in the sector requires immediate attention,” Spad said.
Spad said, following the findings of the incident, KTMB would face stern action and was liable for a fine, if found to be negligent.
Following the incident, Spad had also requested KTMB to refund Electric Train Service (ETS) passengers who were affected by the incident and those who wished to cancel their trip.
The statement added, passengers affected by the disruption in services could use alternative railway services such as the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in Sungai Buloh, Kajang, Muzium Negara, Pasar Seni and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) from Subang Jaya.
"KTMB will also ensure that ETS passengers are connected to the Sungai Buluh Station via MRT before changing to the ETS to resume their journey to their destination.
"KTMB has also been instructed to provide bus service from Sentul-KL and Sentral-Sentul as an alternative mode of transportation for those affected by the incident,” said the statement.
In an incident at 2.58am, several routes of the KTM Commuter and ETS experienced disruption following the derailment of twelve cargo coaches that were moving southwards between the Bank Negara Station and the Kuala Lumpur Station at KM386.
