KOTA KINABALU: Five Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) technicians sustained serious burns after an electricity substation caught fire here last night.
According to a statement from Kota Kinabalu city police, the employees, aged between 25 and 65, suffered between 20% and 90% burns.
“Four of them were rushed to the critical zone of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1’s emergency department here, while the remaining staff member was taken to the hospital’s semi-critical unit,” city police chief ACP M Chandra said.
After receiving an alert, a fire engine was dispatched and arrived at the substation located at Wawasan Plaza at 11pm.
Firefighters put out the blaze six minutes later. The cause of the incident is being investigated.
Initial investigations found no elements of crime in the incident, said Chandra.- FMT
