What did Najib offer to buy from Theresa May, Dr M asks

After panning Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's meeting with US president Donald Trump last week, Dr Mahathir Mohamad is now setting his sights on the premier's talks with his British counterpart Theresa May.
In particular, the former premier questioned if Najib had offered to buy anything from the British government.
"It could be jets - Typhoon fighter jets - maybe one or two squadrons. That could have been the price for a photo opportunity at No 10 Downing Street, London," Mahathir wrote on his blog today.
Najib had met May last Thursday, while on his way back from his trip to Washington.
Mahathir's jabs were in reference to the multi-billion investments Najib announced during his meeting with Trump.
This included that MAS would be purchasing more than 30 Boeing aircraft, and an investment boost of up to US$4 billion by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
Mahathir (photo) had claimed that this was Najib's attempt to "buy" Trump's support.

In his blog post today, the former prime minister launched into a vitriol chastising anti-corruption "champions" in the West for inviting an allegedly corrupt prime minister to visit their countries holding meetings with them.
He said there is no reason for Malaysians to hope that Western countries would take action against corrupt acts occurring in their countries.

"The Mat Sallehs say 'if the price is right, corruption is okay. It’s not okay only if it is done by someone else'," he added.
Najib has been linked to civil forfeiture suits by the US Department of Justice on assets purchased using allegedly misappropriated 1MDB funds.
Pundits say that meeting with Trump had helped distance Najib from the allegations, and give him more legitimacy among his support base.- Mkini
