As we speak, the Oxpord Manglish Dictionary, the sister publication of the world-renowned dictionary, is compiling words that incorporate the word "Najib". The nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and phrases that allude to "Najib", such as "The Sibu Shuffle" will also be featured.
This has been made possible because around three percent of the 100 million words that are uttered or printed in newspapers, blogs, online news, magazines, Astro, TV3, Utusan Malaysia and in some American newspapers and magazines, refer to "Najib".
When Najib Abdul Razak returned from America, he gloated that President Trump had called him "my friend". Wouldn't you call the tramp down the road, a "friend", if he acted like one of the Three Wise Kings bearing gifts?
Thus, a "Najib friend" describes a fake friend, an insincere person who does not care about you, but is only interested in what you have to offer.
In Washington, Najib became the unofficial spokesman for MAS and said the airline would commit to buying Boeing planes, even though MAS recently has had to flog its fairly new Airbus A380s. Najib offered to aid American infrastructure and make America great again, with EPF money.
Trump learnt about another "Najib policy", which Malaysians recognise as a "flip-flop". Despite cancelling overseas scholarships, Najib said that Malaysia would increase student participation in America. When did he flip?
Wily politicians combine work and play
"Najib power" is about making dreams come true. Around the globe, world leaders avoid Trump, but Najib was desperate to be seen shaking Trump's hand. He engaged a Washington lobbyist, Healy E Baumgardner-Nardonem for US$250,000 to make this possible. In the end, Najib's motto, "Cash is King" worked.
A "Najib Business Trip" is one on which wily politicians combine work and play, so that the tab is picked up by the Malaysian taxpayer. It is also known as an "Umno-Baru study trip". Even innocuous visits to Disneyland have been paid by the long-suffering rakyat.
The rakyat has paid for one of Najib's most expensive photo shoots. Apart from the fee for Baumgardner-Nardonem, there was the use of a private jet, the retail therapy to keep the self-styled "First Lady of Malaysia" (FLOM) happy, the upkeep of the entourage, the Harrods therapy, paying for officials both at home, and in Washington and London, to leave their desks and wave the happy couple off at KLIA, or to welcome them in Washington and London. Most Malaysians can only afford the overseas holidays, once every few years. Not so the Najibs.
Malaysians are still wondering what they gained from Najib's Washington junket.
"To do a Najib" is to avoid the issue. Last year, two ABC reporters, working on the Australian Four Seasons programme, flew to Kuching, hoping to meet Najib. Initially, Najib looked pleased to see the gwai loh faces in the crowd, who seemed eager to speak to him; but they asked the wrong questions.
The reporters wanted to know why many millions of ringgit ended up in Najib's private bank account. So, after the PM "Did a Najib" the reporters were arrested, then deported and received "Najib hospitality", as the foreign media call it.
In December 2014, Obama saw first-hand our PM "Doing a Najib" when he delayed returning home to deal with Kelantan's worst flood for decades.
A bank holiday in UK and Ireland is a public holiday when banks and businesses are shut. A "Najib holiday" is declared when Najib is feeling particularly pleased with himself, like when the Malaysian team won against Indonesia, in the Suzuki Cup championship of 2010, or the end of the South East Asia Games last month.
References like "Najib Economics", or "Najinomics", usually refer to Najib’s comments on the 1MDB government fund. Despite being saddled with RM42 billion of debt, Najib is adamant that Malaysia is not facing a crisis and the economy is doing well, despite the drop in oil prices.
In the criminal underworld, a "Najib kneecap" or shooting, is a warning not to divulge secrets. Even the FBI has alluded to this form of witness intimidation.
During former British PM Margaret Thatcher's rule, the "Thatcher hand-bagging" was feared by her aides. Those at the receiving end would be mercilessly crucified in public.
To be "Najib hand-bagged" is a fate which most people try to avoid because a head-on collision with the wielder of the Birkin is too horrible to contemplate. People have been demoted or fired after they have been "Najib hand-bagged".
This explains why there are many "Yes men" in Najib's cabinet. The closest analogy to this is Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer treatment for footballers.
An English teacher, from Kuala Lumpur, praised Najib for the versatility of his name and said, "You are so lucky to have 'Najib', who can spawn offshoot phrases, like 'The Sibu Shuffle', to describe the offer of financial aid, made to the citizens of Sibu, provided they voted for his chosen candidate.
"Boys refuse to go out with girls who fail to turn up for their dates. They avoid girls who 'Najib' them.
"Children who play truant will be told they are 'Doing a Najib'.
"The tradesman will warn the dishonest person: 'Don’t tell me that the cheque is in the post. I know all about these Najib cheques'.
"Your PM is a worldwide phenomenon... He should enter the Guinness Book of Records for his services to English literature and economics."
