Syed Ali: Zam's attack on PM, Umno, reveals ungratefulness

Zainuddin Maidin has been labelled as ungrateful for his constant criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Umno.
According to Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee, Zainuddin should be grateful to Umno for being given the post of information minister in the past, despite not being a “respected” (disegani) politician.
“Because of Umno, he had the opportunity to hold a high position in a mainstream newspaper as well,” Syed Ali added in reference to Zainuddin's former position as editor-in-chief of the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia newspaper.
“And it is because of Umno, he was given the opportunity to be in the cabinet, although he was not a politician who came from the Umno grassroots,” he added in a blog posting.
Syed Ali said it was unwarranted for Zainuddin, who is better known as Zam, to give the impression that Umno and the government have not contributed to the people.
“I don't know what Zam's problem with Umno and Najib is, but his continued attacks against Umno are too much because Umno has helped him,” he added.
Syed Ali was responding to Zainuddin's remarks reported by Malaysiakini, where the former minister claimed that Umno no longer has a future and its present leaders are faced with the monumental task of redeeming the nation' pride.
However, the Umno man, said Zainuddin's claim that Umno was at the brink of destruction is based on his own perception, which is tied to the former minister's anger towards Umno and Najib's administration.
“The allegation comes from disppointment, ego and a sense of obsession towards a certain individual who must be constantly praised for his brilliance in the past,” he added.
Though Syed Ali did not mention names, it is believed that he was referring to Zainuddin's allegiance to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Mahathir, a former Umno president of more than two decades, is now chairperson of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and a member of the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.
Contrary to Zainuddin's bleak prediction, Syed Ali said, Umno would continue to shine in the future.
“As someone experienced in the mainstream media and had been a cabinet minister at a point, Zam should be wise and observe decorum,” he added.- Mkini
