The government does not plan to suspend medical solutions provider Medivest Sdn Bhd while the probe on the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) fire is ongoing.
Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahaya said this is because Medivest is servicing 12 other hospitals in Johor, six in Negeri Sembilan, and three in Malacca.
"The ministry does not plan to suspend Medivest's services during the probe as this will affect the support services in those hospitals and affect medical services in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca," Hilmi told the House.
He was responding to a question from Liew Chin Tong (DAP-Kluang) on when Medivest's services would be suspended.
On Tuesday, a fire broke out in the Intensive Care Unit at HSA in Johor Bahru, killing six patients.
A day later, smoke came out of a socket at the hospital’s operating theatre today, prompting an evacuation.
A multi-agency task force has been set up to probe the incidents.
Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam yesterday revealed that maintenance works for the hospital were outsourced to Medivest.
He added that Medivest was also responsible for helping to draft the standard operating procedures as well as emergency response protocols and to train the hospital staff in them.- Mkini
