Top cop Khalid tells Jeff Ooi to surrender now

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi should surrender himself to assist in investigations or face arrest for his allegedly offensive tweet on the death of PAS spiritual leader Haron Din.
"If he (Ooi) wants to make things easier, just surrender himself.
"Or else we (police) will find him," Khalid told reporters after the monthly assembly at Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khalid had earlier confirmed Ooi is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony on grounds of religion.
“I would like to advise politicians like Jeff Ooi... be very careful before speaking or making any postings. Think first, think 10 times before posting anything that could hurt sensitivities of other races or religion.
“Don’t just shoot your mouth off,” he said.
Ooi had tweeted, "Adios Haron Din. May there be peace" when re-tweeting another user's message about the PAS spiritual leader's passing on Friday.
The DAP parliamentarian later deleted the tweet after receiving brickbats from all quarters.
In an immediate response, Ooi told Malaysiakini his lawyer is arranging for a time for him to meet with Penang CPO Abdul Ghafar Rejab today.
Meanwhile, de facto law minister Azalina Othman Said said Ooi's tweets were "unfortunate and insensitive".
"Especially being an MP, the rakyat looks at us more seriously, so it's a bit of, as they say, not of good taste," she told reporters after a parliamentary reform briefing at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Haron was a well-known and well-respected religious leader, she said, so a certain level of respect should be accorded.

She added that the matter would be more easily settled if Ooi were to apologise to Haron's family.
Two nabbed
In a related development, two netizens have been arrested for similarly making negative comments related to the late PAS leader's death.
The authorities allege the postings are insulting to Islam.
It is understood that police are also investigating Ooi and the two others under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Ooi has since locked his Twitter account @jeffooi from public viewing.-Mkini
