BN in power until feed-mill factory runs out of ‘dedak’

YOURSAY | ‘Koon’s points are valid but I disagree that BN will lose the next GE.’
New Dawn: Writer Koon Yew Yin, many may wish your hopes can come true but this is unlikely to happen.
First, opposition parties and some of their leaders have a personal agenda not necessarily in the best interest of the country or rakyat.
Opposition leaders like to bicker over the smallest of issues and lose the big picture. PAS has several moderate leaders but with Abdul Hadi Awang at the helm, it may throw a spanner in the works in so far as opposition unity is concerned.
Urban voters will also be suspicious of PAS even if they agree to join the opposition because of their insistence on hudud.
On Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, let him be. He is someone who cannot commit himself to the opposition because because he loves Umno, although he is sometimes critical of it. Move on and cultivate moderate younger Malay leaders.
JD Lovrenciear: Koon, the waters have to tested. Let Bersih 5 on Nov 19 be the defining moment.
With almost half the 29 million Malaysians who are adults and their stepping forward in a showdown of peaceful protest registration, the battle is won.
Malaysians must realise this early. Intention + effort = results.
6th Generation Immigrant: Yes, whatever it is today, tomorrow, the future - the first step is for every eligible voter in Malaysia to be registered.
With plans of redelineation or gerrymandering ongoing, the voter registration will throw a spanner into their underhand schemes.
This must be the sole plan of all our youths - register as a voter immediately and confirm your registration regularly. Otherwise we can be talking till the cows come home.
This is the simplest of all plans to throw out a corrupt government, so do your part. The second step is to ensure 90 percent voter turnout.
Nehru: Pakatan Harapan should get busloads of youths who are unregistered voters to the EC and get them registered, so that they will be in greater numbers than the Alliance mentality of the older generation who will still vote for BN.
Doc: Koon’s points are valid but I disagree that BN will lose the next GE.
1) We have seen ruptures in Umno with Dr Mahathir Mohamad's loyalists leaving Umno but this will not happen with MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the Sarawak/Sabah component parties.
More Umno politicians may jump ship if they have nothing financially to gain from Najib Abdul Razak, but the component parties have always been faithful to the Umno president and treat him like a deity.
2) Even if BN is losing the election, there is no stopping them from invoking emergency powers and rule as a dictator.
3) BN has eons of experience in allegedly manipulating votes. Redelineation has already started. Alleged vote rigging and vote stuffing will surely happen on election day.
4) The race and religious cards will be played to the maximum. Malays tend to leave reasoning, logic and hardship behind when told their ‘Malay-ness’ and Islam is threatened. Hence the Malays will vote for Umno.
5) PAS, which is allegedly now an Umno agent, and will deliver or split the Malays in favour of BN.
Dont Just Talk: Not all voters are that optimistic like you, Koon because:
1. With the delineation exercise favouring Umno Baru and BN - for example, Putrajaya with only 17,000 voters is entitled to one MP.
2. Fifty-one percent of popular votes still remain a minority.
3. Unlike the 13th general election where it was a straight fight between BN and Pakatan Rakyat, the 14th GE will see many three-cornered fights among the opposition parties, with additional new parties Amanah and Bersatu added to an already crowded opposition field.
4. Unlike the 13th GE, PAS will remain a stumbling block with the likes of its president Hadi and PAS Youth leader Nik Abduh Nik Aziz at its helm.
Roger 5201: Indeed, BN's loss in GE14 is not a foregone conclusion, especially with the recent round of alleged gerrymandering, but the excuse that non-Malays threatens the existence of Malays is getting less credible by the day with the demise of race-based parties.
OneVoice: Koon, if my memory does not fail me, you also wrote an article similar to this for the 13th general election. It baffles me to know that an engineer like you, with so much ability to absorb knowledge, does not know that:
1. Our election system is using the Westminster system, which is first past the post.
2. The opposition have never been formidable and never will be. Gaining 53 percent of the so-called majority is not correct as it was split between three to five parties and included independents and all parties under their own banner. BN was the only sole winner of the majority as they participated under one banner.
Lastly, I love your wishful thinking, but alas, this is reality - the majority of people still trust BN to administer Malaysia.

Shibboleth: Koon, you are a philanthropist and will remain so until your money runs out. It’s the same in BN politics - until the feed-mill factory runs out of 'dedak', they will remain in power. - Mkini
