Award U-turn a slap in the face for Rosmah

YOURSAY | ‘The good news is that Rosmah can save us the cost of using ‘M’sian Air Force One’.
Vijay47: Frankly, I am totally confused by this report. In what way has Bernama been erroneous in its original report?
My understanding is that the news agency correctly stated that Rosmah Mansor had been chosen for recognition with reference to Permata activities.
But following delicate questions from the media, the awards committee decided to remove her from the list of honourees to avoid the event being “dominated” by Rosmah ‘issues’.
So, at least in this particular case, Bernama had been not wrong. But this turn of events is a real slap in the face.
It is not a matter of she being a nominee and not making the final cut, but that she had indeed been selected for an award and then was actually taken out of the list, just four days from the ceremony. That is even worse than being not nominated at all.
The inference is that the organisation shares some of the concerns regarding Rosmah and the financing of Permata. The good news is that Rosmah can save us the cost of using ‘Malaysian Air Force One’.
Hplooi: I am gobsmacked by this international committee (of Antiquities Coalition) chaired by a royal professor (Professor Tudor Parfitt). Don't they have any 'first check' even before acceptance for nominations?
Even without considering the “source of funding”, does Permata even comply with the award’s objectives and eligibility (if there are any)?
Even a cursory check of “helping deprived young people” itself may already prove something. But this episode goes to show that many international awards are self-serving and may perhaps exist as milking the public, royal professor or otherwise.
Kee Thuan Chye: It looks like things are tightening up against Rosmah and hubby. It is a slap on their faces that questions are being raised about the funding of Permata.
To all intents and purposes, the funding could be legitimate because Najib as PM allocates millions to the project every Budget Day, but the 1MDB scandal and Rosmah's alleged multi-million-dollar shopping splurges have apparently tainted the couple's credibility.
This questioning of Permata's funding shows up the distrust the international community now seems to have of Najib and his Ros. Is God in his heaven after all?
JD Lovrenciear: In Australia, they had to remove a name of one Malaysian chieftain from their centre of learning. Now US has to remove one more potential nominee. What does all these tell us?
That the West is attacking a sovereign nation? Or is it plain telling us that things are going seriously wrong here? And we have red shirts standing up in defence of what is deemed wrong.
OneVoice: I may not like Rosmah, but this is not about her, this is about the kids. Yes, she gets the headlines one way or another, but it now makes all right-thinking Malaysians know that a segment of our rakyat are treacherous and despicable.
What have the children done to you that you think Rosmah is bigger than this organisation? Anyway, Permata was set up not to win awards, but countries which could have learned from this model are now deprived of it.
Kneazle: "He (Parfitt) said as academics, the organisation had no immediate means of verifying funding for Permata, and was not aware of any specific wrongdoing..."
Read between the lines. This meant that the organisation doesn't want to address uncomfortable questions should it proceed.
Dr Ram: I really envy and salute the fast reaction and decision of the award committee of not simply giving out the award to Rosmah and their promise to look deeper into its recommendation. This is what is called integrity and transparency.
MA: Time and again, it is the West that gets all the beatings from these Umnoputras, putris and their cronies; be it bashing of their governments, their agencies or corporations.
But the very next second, these same people take the fastest route to these ‘finger licking good’ agencies when they want their personal causes broadcast or for braying purposes.
The West is not going to ‘kowtow’ to all these acts and this is one clear example.
Visu: Everyone is trying to put their hands on a slice of the alleged stolen cake. Even the foreign organisations seem to have been tempted to offer their titles, probably hoping to get their hands on a wee bit of the money.
Antiquities Coalition was probably ‘leading by example’ and now the U-turn. There are no ‘brainchild’ ideas by any Malaysian government-linked people. Only brainless ideas to allegedly steal from the people's coffers.
Headhunter: We have heard how the cabinet approved a budget of hundreds of millions to Permata each year, supposedly for educating children from disadvantaged families. But what is the outcome of all that spending, no one seems to know.
For all we know, the money has gone elsewhere. The auditor-general should zero in on this. And is Permata audited by an independent auditor annually?

Doc: Permata is Rosmah 's brainchild and she is the driving force behind that organisation. She has built up that organisation to become a leader both locally and globally in those areas of special child care needs.
Sadly, now Rosmah is Permata's biggest liability.
VeraCruz: Thank you. I have now regained my appetite. -Mkini
