PETALING JAYA: An eatery, TTDI Meat Point, has withdrawn its Facebook post alleging corruption on the issuing of halal certificates.
This came about after the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had contacted the restaurant over its claim.
“That issue is settled already. Their accusation is wrong, so we called them and they also admitted that and retracted their accusations,” a Jakim official told Malay Mail Online.
It is not known whether Jakim will proceed with any kind of action against the eatery for false dissemination of information.
TTDI Meat Point is a steakhouse located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
It had posted on its Facebook page that it was having difficulty getting its halal certification and stated it refused to pay bribes running into thousands to get such certification.
The eatery later clarified that no official had asked them for bribes and that the allegation was based simply on their assumptions.
It also admitted it did not deal directly with Jakim but through an agent.
The restaurant extended its apologies to Jakim and hoped “all its sins would be forgiven”.
Jakim said it did not tolerate corruption and anyone approached for bribes should notify the proper authorities.
