© Provided by The Malay Mail Online Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police’s move to embed officers in the Selangor Islamic Religious Department was aimed at countering the Islamic State militant movement…KOTA KINABALU, May 4 — The civil police’s move to embed officers in the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) is aimed at countering the Islamic State militant movement in Malaysia and not to be the morality police, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

Khalid told pro-moderation group G25, which criticised the trial project that seeks to place two police officers and a lower ranking sergeant in the religious department, to look at the bigger picture.

“They do not understand. They should not be narrow-minded and look at things from a wider scope.

“It is not about [policing] morality. We also want to monitor any religious deviation that has been happening in our country,” he said during a press conference at the general operations force headquarters here today.
