Wipe out ‘liars’ in all political parties, says TI-M

Anti-corruption organisation says government and Opposition are both experiencing a integrity deficit.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Opposition parties are experiencing a crisis of integrity, similar to what is seen in Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) president Akhbar Sattar stressed that there is a integrity deficit in Malaysian politics across the board.

“Malaysians, especially voters, are caught between a rock and a hard place.“The ruling government and Opposition are all undergoing a crisis of integrity.

“There is perpetual infighting and political manoeuvring. Where is their integrity?” he posed in an exclusive interview with FMT yesterday.

Akhbar said issues over integrity among political parties needed to be addressed.

He cautioned that failure to resolve this would encourage “liars” to creep up the ranks of political parties, wreaking havoc on the nation.

“We need a simple system but, most importantly, the ‘driver’ within the political party must have a high sense of integrity.

“Doing this, many problems can be solved. In one fell swoop, we can wipe out these ‘liars’ who have overrun Malaysia.”
