“We know who is Charles Morais and his background. We know what transpired when he went to the US. So, I want to remind him not to make baseless accusations”
(Malay Mail Online) – Charles Suresh Morais should be able to substantiate his claims regarding his murdered brother Anthony Kevin Morais, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
Khalid reportedly said the police know Charles Suresh’s background and will launch a fresh probe into the US-based businessman’s statutory declaration (SD) yesterday, which among other things claimed that Kevin was likely killed because he knew too much about those in power and had to be silenced.
“We know who is Charles Morais and his background. We know what transpired when he went to the US.
“So, I want to remind him not to make baseless accusations,” he was quoted saying by news portal The Malaysian Insider in Ipoh today.
According to the news portal, Khalid said Malaysian police will ask Charles Suresh to disclose information in his hands and will contact him through his lawyer Americk Sidhu if he has left for the US.
Malay Mail Online’s attempts to contact Charles Suresh earlier today was unsuccessful.
It is unclear if Charles Suresh has left the country as claimed by another website, Sarawak Report, earlier today.
In his 18-page SD signed yesterday, Charles Suresh said that Kevin had before his death sent him a pen drive with contents that “clearly and unequivocally reveal the investigations Kevin had been tasked with just before his untimely death which implicate certain personalities who currently walk the corridors of power in Malaysia”.
Yesterday, Khalid reportedly told Malaysiakini that Charles Suresh would likely be called up to have his statement taken and suggested that he share the contents of the pen drive with the police to allow action to be taken.
Kevin, who was seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission nearly 10 years ago, was transferred back to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in July 2014 and was deputy head of its appellate and trial division at the time of his death.
His body was found hidden in a cement-filled oil drum in Subang Jaya 13 days after he was abducted en route to his Putrajaya office from his home on September 4.
Charles Suresh had on Monday applied for a court order for a second post-mortem, but the current location of Kevin’s body is unknown after it was reportedly collected by another brother Datuk Richard Morais on the same day without Charles Suresh’s knowledge from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary.
