Typo on menu snipped off before dinner, says Parliament

The menu at a Parliament dinner containing the misspelt "Scissors Salad" was replaced before the meal, Parliament's corporate communications department said today.

"The error had been detected and was replaced before the dinner," it said, adding that it regretted the viral spread of a photo showing the mistake on social media.

It said the mistake was rectified in the actual menu during Monday's dinner, adding that the photo showing "Scissors Salad" as the appetiser had created a negative perception of the Parliament.

"We regret that the image of the wrongly spelt menu was spread by irresponsible parties causing a negative perception on the Malaysian Parliament," it said, adding that the menu was prepared by the caterer.

Malaysians took to social media to poke fun at the photo, with Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee saying the mistake should not have happened in an important institution like the federal legislature.

The incident comes on the back of a debate on English proficiency across various sectors in Malaysia.
