Recruitment of English teachers from India deferred for now

The recruitment of trained English teachers from India will be deferred for now, Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said.
"We deferred this programme for the time being. So I will comment on this next year," he replied when asked by a reporter to comment on the recruitment of English teachers from India.
He added that this deferment does not only apply to English teachers from India, but from other places as well, including from Cambridge, United Kingdom.
This was during a press conference after he attended the prize giving ceremony of the Young Entrepreneurs Innovation Programme in Kuala Lumpur today.
Last month, Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan had said that the recruitment will be finalised soon.
Now, Mahdzir said, they have a technical team who is studying this matter in a comprehensive manner.
They are reviewing on the best course of action, be it recruiting teachers from abroad or from within the country, he said.
"Like retired teachers, those on pension; whether we can engage with them or not," Mahdzir said.
The results of this review will be ready next year, he added.
Kamalanathan had previously said that the teachers from India would be placed in several rural schools across the country, including ‘hot spot’ schools to help raise competency level of local English teachers in line with the Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening Command of English (MBMMBI). --Mkini
