THEN WHY NO ACTION? We have laws to deal with Red Shirt thugs like Jamal - minister assures Chinatown traders
SHAH ALAM - Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin assured traders in Petaling Street today that they need not fear any backlash on their businesses as there are sufficient laws and enforcement to deal with threats made by people like #Merah169 leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos.
“If the country listened to those making threats and feared them, it would mean that the laws are insufficient. But because our laws and enforcement are sufficient, then this problem does not arise,” he said, when asked about the ministry’s stand on responding to Jamal.
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno chief and president of the Coalition of Malay NGOs that had played a prominent role in the Malaysia Day street demonstration of Malay power, had last week said that authorities’ failure to take action against Petaling Street traders allegedly selling fake goods will inevitably force “red shirt” protesters to return there and possibly “riot”.
He was arrested last Friday at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters over his warning that there could be a riot at Petaling Street last Saturday.

The minister also said that he had already made an appointment to meet with Petaling Street traders before Jamal had demanded so, but cancelled it so as not to appear as though he was responding to threats.
“The meeting was supposed to take place on September 23, but in light of threats, I called it off, because I don’t want people to think that I organised the meeting because of threat. Once the issue has died out, I will call the traders again, “ Hamzah told reporters after a walkabout programme here to visit traders involved in ministry initiatives ATOM (Pemodenan Bengkel Automatif) and TUKAR (Transformasi Kedai Runcit). - Malay Mail
