Shahbudin: All lost if Muhyiddin doesn’t fight back

If he wants to keep quiet, he should have done so from the beginning, and avoided being sacked. Having been sacked, why keep quiet?
Shahbudin-Husin,-Muhyiddin-Yassin,-umno4KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin, after having being sacked as Deputy Prime Minister, cannot continue to carry on as if things were normal even as efforts are being made by his foes in Umno to isolate, neutralize, and marginalize him until he dies of dehydration, said a political analyst in his latest blog posting. “At his age, he should realize that this is about struggling for the truth in the cause of the party, government, the future generations and the country. He should speak up now or he will slowly fade away, soon forgotten.”
“If Muhyiddin is suspended as Deputy President because of speaking up, or even stripped of his party membership, at least it won’t be for want of trying. It’s better for him to go down fighting instead of keeping quiet. He will always be remembered for that.”
Shahbudin Husin, the analyst, was urging Muhyiddin to join former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad for one at his various functions seeking the truth on 1MDB and various scandals. “He has already lost the Deputy Premiership and continues to be sidelined by Najib in the party, so what’s he waiting for? Don’t let Mahathir, at 90, carry on the fight alone. This is not the time to go on frequent vacations.”
“It’s too late for Muhyiddin to keep quiet now after having been sacked. If he wants to keep quiet, he should have done so from the beginning, and avoided being sacked. Having been sacked, why keep quiet? Even if he keeps quiet, Najib is going to roast him anyway in the party because there’s a lack of trust between them.”
The analyst noticed that although Muhyiddin has pledged loyalty to the party in helping it to victory in GE14 come 2018, the fact is that efforts are being made to increasingly reduce his role in the party. “Being Umno President has no longer any meaning for Muhyiddin after he lost the Deputy Prime Minister’s post on July 28. Cash is King Umno President and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is deciding on everything while Muhyiddin has been left with nothing to sugar-coat his promises.”
“Probably, after this no Umno division or branch will invite him for anything.”
The latest, noted Shahbudin, was a letter signed by Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor that Umno Vice- President and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will chair meetings of the Coordinating Centre for Election Operations. “Muhyiddin used to handle this task before.”
“If there’s a by-election, it means that Zahid and not Muhyiddin will spearhead the campaign and announce aid to the voters, and projects for the area.”
In December, in preparation for the party’s General Assembly, it’s unlikely that Muhyiddin as the Umno Deputy President will be allowed to officiate at the annual meetings of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings of the party. “These are important occasions for the Deputy President to send his message to the three wings and the party,” said Shahbudin.
“Likewise, it would be surprising if Muhyiddin is allowed to speak at all during the General Assembly this year. If he’s not allowed to speak in December, then it’s a certainty that he won’t be able to speak at future General Assemblies.”
Already, he added, the task of the Disciplinary and Management Committee which Muhyiddin headed was taken over by the Political Bureau, led by Najib, before the September 9 meeting of the Umno Supreme Council which had been expected to strip the number two of his party membership or suspend him from his duties.
Najib may have not acted against Muhyiddin during the September 9 Supreme Council meeting, conceded the analyst, but it’s clear that he’s continuing his efforts to sideline the party number two slowly but surely. “This will be seen once again this month when the Political Bureau meets, instead of the Disciplinary and Management Committee, to pave the way for the next monthly Supreme Council meeting.”
If this is how the party is going to be run until GE14 in 2018, said the analyst, Muhyiddin will be attending the Supreme Council meeting devoid of any power, as an empty shell, reduced to raising trivial matters. “He would no longer effectively be the Umno Deputy President.”
