Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has claimed that he did not fork out a single sen for his son's wedding reception in Indonesia.
He said the bash was organised by his son's father-in-law.
"I hope God will punish him when his daughter or son gets married," he joked in reference to Umno blogger Shahbudin Husin, who questioned Zahid's visit in his blog posting.
Zahid today confirmed that he attended the wedding reception on Aug 19 during his official visit to Indonesia.
"My son married the Indonesian girl earlier in Kuala Lumpur," he told a press conference at Putrajaya after officiating the National Registration Day.
Having learned about his official visit to Indonesia, Zahid said his son’s father-in-law, who is a businessman, planned a reception in Jakarta.
"I didn't spend any money in organising the wedding reception because that is from the girl's side. I did not spend any money to entertain anybody.
“The function was not mine, was my besan’s (in-law). I didn't spend any money for any minister and guests from Malaysia to attend the wedding
"Why did he not ask me to explain it publicly, I am not abusing public funds," he added, rebutting Shahbudin.
Zahid said the blogger should have met him to seek an explanation.
Shahbudin was summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to explain the blog posting.
Shahbudin had argued that his posting had merely raised a question and did not contain allegations against Zahid.
Zahid was in Indonesia for a four-day official trip from Sept 18 to Sept 21. - M'kini
