SELANGOR REP TABLES BID TO DELAY AZMIN’S NEW INVESTMENT ARM

Saari Sungib
(Malay Mail Online) – Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib today submitted a motion for the state assembly to delay the start of the Darul Ehsan Investment Group (DEIG) mooted by Mentri Besar Azmin Ali, claiming the risk management firm’s role was fraught with confusion.
Saari added that DEIG was unnecessary when the state already has the Mentri Besar Incorporated (MBI) performing similar functions.
“Our worry is, why is there a need for DEIG when MBI already formed? We need to ensure transparency and credibility,” he told reporters when met outside the state assembly today.
Shaari added that almost “more than half” of the state’s assemblymen “shared the same concerns” that the formation of DEIG would give more power to Azmin as MB.
He also said that DEIG would not be subject to the same checks and balances as MBI, given that the firm was not an legally-constituted entity.
Azmin yesterday claimed that DEIG would minimise Selangor’s exposure to investment risks and was necessitated by the “tainted” legacy that his predecessor left on MBI.
