PKR youth vice-chief Fahmi Fadzil has challenged Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar to resign in protest of the transfer two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.

Although the two ministers have voiced concerns over the transfer, Fahmi said this was not enough because of their cabinet positions.

“Based on the concept of ‘collective responsibility’, as long as they remain members of Najib Abdul Razak's cabinet, they, in principle, continue to agree with the policies and actions that appear to erode the integrity and independence of these key oversight institutions.

“Therefore, the both of them must take a stronger line as a sign of protest.

“If they are unable to change the policies of the Najib administration, I challenge both ministers to resign before this Wednesday's cabinet meeting, so that the prime minister will get the clearest indicator that members of his own cabinet disagree with his administration's policies and actions thus far,” Fahmi (photo) said in a statement today.

The two MACC officers, Bahri Mohamed Zin and Rohaizad Yaakob, were abruptly transferred to the Prime Minister’s Department on Friday, following a series of arrests and raids against MACC officers who were involved in 1MDB-related investigations.

Bahri, the head of the commission’s special operations division, had been leading the investigations.

Khairy said that transfers appeared to be planned intimidationand urged for it to stop.

Low had said that the transfers were ‘inappropriate’ despite Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi downplaying it as merely ‘administrative’.
