No more chances for PM Najib

The PM had multiple opportunities to do the right thing but arrogance and ego led him a different way

The UMNO Secretary-General not only believes that “Malays forget easily” he also hopes that the Alzheimer’s affliction which Malays are prone to will also apply to all Malaysians. This may be why Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor pleaded for a second chance for the Prime Minister.
Why should we give the worst PM in Malaysian history more chances than he has already been given? His arrogance and ego are not the traits of a good leader.
When floods in multiple states affected hundreds of thousands of Malaysians earlier this year, the Prime Minister had the chance to put into action his “people first” mantra. Instead he insisted on continuing to play golf in Hawaii.
When Sabah was hit by earthquakes, with tremors continuing even months later, he had the chance to go there to actually show some compassion. Instead, he went off to Jeddah, adding that since the trip had been planned in advance, he couldn’t cancel it. He brought the family entourage along too.
When multiple news outlets noted that a company owned by the Ministry of Finance was in trouble, he could have taken the opportunity to investigate. Instead, he waited till the Wall Street Journal article was published. Then made some noise and only then pushed for investigations.
He then took the opportunity to warn every news portal or business paper that they could see their licenses suspended if they repeated any of these allegations while his lawyers sent out weird and vague letters of demand to other news outlets.
When the media jumped on the allegations and asked him if he actually had the money, he had the chance to be open and admit to whatever he did. Instead, in his wisdom he explained that it “wasn’t for personal gain” and then changed the tune to describe the billions of ringgit as a “donation(s)”.
When his former Deputy asked him publicly to explain the funds, warning that Malaysians were not stupid enough to buy the manure he was preaching, the PM got all fired up and fired his Deputy.
Such is the naïveté of our current bunch of the new cabinet hooligans that they try to defend this new “donation” explanation by saying that election donations for political parties are not regulated. The story gets juicier because a senior member from the PM’s own party just announced that no such funds ever made it into the political party’s accounts.
But worst of all, this egotistical leader and even Tengku Adnan himself keeps forgetting that after he won GE13 without the popular vote, the newly elected Prime Minister’s chose not to thank Malaysian voters who actually gave him a second chance. Instead, he complained about how he had been betrayed by the Chinese, even going as far as to ask “Apa lagi Cina mahu?” (what more do the Chinese want).
Right there and then, he had the chance to talk about reconciliation, about how Malaysians needed to put aside politics and race and whatever mud was being flung around but he chose not to take it.
While empty headed cabinet ministers and Secretaries-General may continue to think that Malaysians are an ignorant, naïve and downright stupid people who buy into this con, the truth is the only thing forcing them to act this way is fear.
So, apologies to Tengku Adnan, but I do believe Malaysians have given this Prime Minister more chances than he deserves. In fact, to confirm this I suggest a poll to ask each division in the party to see if they still want the Prime Minister to remain as a member of the party.
The results may surprise you, Tengku.
