'HOLD YOUR HEAD UP MALAYSIA' - Muhyiddin's singer daughter offers hope in nation's darkest hour

'HOLD YOUR HEAD UP MALAYSIA' - Muhyiddin's singer daughter offers hope in nation's darkest hour
Najwa Mahiaddin might be better known as the daughter of former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyidding Yassin but she is also a popular R&B songstress and she put her soulful voice to good use in a recent music video appealing to listeners to 'hold up your head Malaysia' posted to her Facebook page on Thursday.
The 5:35 minute black and white music video of the song "After The Rain" has gained over 45,000 views on her Facebook page and has since been posted to Youtube.
The haunting ballad which also featured singer-songwriter Juny, contains a message of hope in its lyrics.
"We may all fall down, but we all get up, hold your head up Malaysia, after the rain comes the sun.
"When life gets cold, and skies are blue, you're not alone I am here for you, my brothers and sisters we'll see you through.
"These are the times we must get through, courage and wisdom must live in you, the way of our future lies in you, from the rising of sun together we are one, we are stronger, stronger forever," Najwa sings in a haunting yet comforting note.
From the comments accompanying her Facebook posting, many might connect her song to the recent fate of her father's removal from Cabinet but the message of hope contained in the song can easily address other trying issued faced by Malaysia in the last year, including the devastating East Coast floods, downing of flight MH17 and most recently, the discovery of flight MH370 debris, triggering a traumatic memory for the victims families and Malaysians as a community.
In her comments accompanying her Facebook posting, Najwa wrote the following message of hope,
“I believe in the power of music and its ability to heal. May this song provide comfort and strength to us all in these trying times.”
We may all fall down
But we all get up
Hold your head up Malaysia
After the rain comes the sun
– Najwa Mahiaddin
Najwa, 28, won two awards at the Anugerah Industri Muzik in 2011 before completing a degree in contemporary writing and production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2013.
She recently tied the knot with her husband Idris Koh Keng Hui in March this year. - M'sian Digest
