END POLITICAL CRISIS: Allow Bersih 4, then table confidence vote in Parliament - Bersih tells Najib
KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has the chance to come up on top by allowing the Bersih 4 rally and by tabling a vote of confidence in Parliament that will put a stop to the country’s political crisis, Bersih 2.0 said today.
Bersih 2.0 chair Maria Chin Abdullah said Najib could declare the upcoming demonstration a failure if turnout was poor and even if the turnout was huge, he could still claim to be the legitimate prime minister by winning a vote of confidence in Parliament.
“A moral victory for Najib in either case will end the ongoing political crisis threatening our economic stability and prospects. Is Najib bold enough to accept the challenges?” Chin said in a statement.
The head of the polls reform group said Najib should allow the overnight Bersih 4 rally, scheduled on August 29 and 30 in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, to proceed in safety for 34 hours.
Bersih 2.0’s applications for venues for the rallies have been rejected, however, specifically the locations of Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Padang Merdeka by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) in Sarawak.

Kuala Lumpur police have also barred the Bersih 4 rally due to the organisers’ failure to get permission from DBKL over the use of Dataran Merdeka, but Bersih 2.0 has said that the rally will go on.
Chin also questioned today Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed’s stand on the rally, which she claimed was conflicting in media reports.
"Over the span of nine days, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan has changed his position on the Bersih 4 rally multiple times,” Chin said.
"Nur Jazlan, who was an outspoken government backbencher till his Executive appointment, should persuade Najib to see the merits of such challenges and accept them,” she added. - Malay Mail
