BULLIED IN IPOH? Pic of assaulted 'muruku' seller sparks outrage
KUALA LUMPUR - The picture of an Indian lady throwing muruku on the road in front of city council enforcement officers in Ipoh, Perak has led to much debate going on in social media on what had actually transpired.
Tracing the photographs of the incident said to have taken place outside Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), The Rakyat Post found a screenshot of the pictures on Siakap Keli, made by one Ahmad Shuaib Ismail.
The picture of the Indian lady sitting on the curb of the road with her goods scattered on the road were accompanied by the caption that said he was saddened to see the fate of this Indian woman trader who was not only not allowed to sell her goods but also suffered from her goods being thrown on the road.
“If she has no license, give her license, don’t throw her goods like that,” Ahmad Shuaib Ismail had allegedly said, based on the screenshot.
His post, uploaded on Aug 8 has been shared 894 times as at press time.
However, a debate ensued after alleged eyewitnesses surfaced, commenting on social media that the Indian lady had taken to throwing her own goods on the road as a sign of protest against the enforcement officers after she was allegedly warned not to trade in front of the hospital as her stall was obstructing traffic flow.
Meanwhile, portal Peraktoday reported that the Ipoh City Council (MBI) has denied that the incident was the fault of their enforcement officers.
According to the council’s secretary, Mohd Zakuan Zakaria, the incident occurred at HRPB, however, he rejected the statement made by netizens saying that the enforcement officers were assaulting the lady.
Nevertheless, he said a full statement regarding the incident would be made after a discussion with hospital management today.
On the Facebook page of Crime Watch Malaysia, user Edrio Edmond who had also uploaded the picture, urged for the public to stop spreading rumours.
“This pic had gone viral for the wrong reason and after checking on many other reliable sources, I notice that many people who worked at the hospital and witness the whole incident voice out and says that the authority only warn her not to sell in front of the hospital because its obstructing traffic flow in and out so she got mad and does this and yet many pages says that the authority destroy it and BTW pls look at this pic properly and I’m not siding the authority and I do feel pity for the lady. PLS STOP SPREADING RUMORS — feeling confused.”
MIC National Youth leader, Sivarraajh Chandran also took to his Facebook to speak on the matter.
“I just spoke to Mdm Janaki (the affected lady) about this incident and she explained to me in detail about the incident. i have asked My Perak Youth Leader/ DBI counsellor saudara Veeran Mic youth perak Perak to handle this case immediately. I have asked him to bring Mdm Janaki to meet the Mayor of Ipoh and resolve this immediately. If deemed necessary the enforcement officer must be refered to Tatatertib.” - Therakyatpost
