AZMIN QUARRELS WITH EX-MB KHALID OVER “TRANSPARENCY” OF RM2.7M SEVERANCE PAYMENTS

Azmin-Ali-Khalid-Ibrahim
(NST) – A brief argument erupted between Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) and Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at the state assembly earlier.
It was over the severance payments paid to eight former aides of Khalid, who were collectively paid RM2.7 million, after he was removed as Menteri Besar last year.
“Where is the transparency? (of the severance payment) . The house was not told of the payment which was high and was not approved. Even the board of directors of Menteri Besar Inc was not openly informed of it,” said Azmin.
This prompted Khalid, an independent Port Klang assemblyman, to interject saying that it was not right for Azmin to raise the issue as it was an on-going case in court.
Azmin then questioned why wasn’t he allowed to talk about it as he wanted to give an example of transparency to the house and had asked Khalid to sit.
However, both continued to speak at the same time and the fed-up Azmin had asked speaker Hannah Yeoh to make bold move to put the house in order.
Yeoh said she certainly would do so and ordered both Azmin and Khalid to sit and said the issue should not be raised in the assembly as the matter was in court.
Azmin had earlier explained to the house the rationale of setting up of Darul Ehsan Investment Group an investment arm set up under MBI in May which consolidates 12 government linked companies.
Its purpose was to soften financial impact on the state government should any of the GLCs incur losses, said Azmin who was answering a question by Yeo Bee Yin (DAP-Damansara Utama).
