Ariff: Zahid should disclose talk with ‘old man’

“I believe that the meeting was not for Zahid to warn former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to keep quiet, cease and desist.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz has pointed out that if Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has agents planted among the MPs, the same agents have disclosed that he in fact met with former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad one evening.
“It would be interesting to know what they discussed,” said Ariff. “I believe that the meeting was not for Zahid to warn Mahathir to keep quiet, cease and desist.”
The MP, switching to the “old man” mentioned by Zahid – not to be taken as Mahathir at this stage — argued that if he had obtained from his agents planted among the MPs that the “old man” was going around Umno MPs and getting their signatures on statutory declarations seeking Najib Abdul Razak’s exit as Prime Minister, then he has nothing to worry about. “If the old man succeeds, then the first thing to realize is that it would be Umno itself which would continue to be in power,” said Ariff. “If Umno continues in power, what’s there for Zahid to get worked up on the old man going around to the MPs?”
Of course, said Ariff, if the “old man” succeeds, there’s no guarantee that Zahid would still have a place in government. “In fact, there should be no place in government for people like Zahid.”
“Who wants to give a place to a person like Zahid who clearly is a poor thinker?”
So, it’s clear now why Zahid was getting worked up over the “old man”, continued Ariff.
He suggests that since Zahid has decided that introducing a no confidence motion in Parliament, although allowed by law, was illegal, he should suggest to his boss that the only way to overcome the problem was to give the 134 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs RM3 million each. “That would only come to RM402 million, not even half of the RM2 billion remaining out of the RM2.6 billion donated to Najib by the Pak Arab,” said Ariff. “That would solve the problem caused by the ‘old man’.”
On a more serious note, Ariff advised Zahid not to play hide-and-seek on the issue. “Whose position is being challenged at the moment? Who does he fear will lose his position?”
Ariff reiterated that Zahid was no better than his boss, Najib, whom he has decided was simply incompetent although many think that he has been sabotaging the economy and should therefore be charged with treason.
Ariff wants to impress on Zahid that if those accused of carrying out economic sabotage have committed treason, then the first person to be hauled up must be the Prime Minister. “There are Ministers talking about economic sabotage.”
“What do you call the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s personal banking accounts at the AmBank Islamic private banking services before the last General Election in 2013? These scandals have contributed to the loss of confidence in the economy and government and led to the drop in the ringgit, among others.”
If someone converts billions of RM into USD and takes it outside the country – or even keeps it within the country – it would contribute to the fall of the ringgit, said Ariff.
The Raub MP was revisiting his earlier point that Najib was incompetent and had inadvertently or otherwise contributed to the fall of the Felda share prices to RM1.60 per share, among others, the rise in the cost of living, and uncontrolled corruption. “If Najib is the main culprit behind the economy being sabotaged, what do we do?” asked Ariff in praying that the “old man” succeeds. “The MPs should expel Najib.”
