Zam: High time Zeti quits as Bank Negara Governor

The Sarawak Report has been accurate on various issues and Zeti should quit the mission impossible Task Force, not sully her reputation further
Zainuddin-Maidin,-Zeti-Akhtar-Aziz
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz should step down to safeguard her integrity in the wake of The Sarawak Report disclosing the contents of the bank account of Rosmah Mansor, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s wife. “Rosmah’s lawyer has challenged Bank Negara to investigate the leak on RM2 million in her account and which is violation of the law”.
“The lawyer has given Bank Negara 72 hours to investigate under the Financial Services Act 2013 and disclose the details of their findings,” noted former Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin in his latest blog posting in implying that by leaving Bank Negara, Zeti would no longer also be with the Special Task Force which has been scorned by the people.
Zainuddin who said that he had a soft spot for Zeti and her parents, Professor Emeritus and Royal Professor Ungku Aziz and his wife Azah, thinks that the Bank Negara Governor should not sully her reputation further by being party to the Special Task Force which has no credibility in the eyes of the people. “This is mission impossible.”
It doesn’t reflect well, he added, that the Special Task Force investigating the allegations in the Wall Street Journal report on Friday July 3, only knew of the existence of Rosmah’s said bank account afterThe Sarawak Report published the details. “If the principle is that everything is under investigation, why not stick to it? Why admit something that knocks the principle?”
No matter how smart the squirrel in jumping from tree to tree, eventually it does fall one day to earth, observed Zainuddin. (Sepandai-pandai tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke tanah juga.)
“No matter how smart one may be, mistakes do occur.”
The Sarawak Report on Rosmah’s bank account confirms that not all of its reporting is baseless as some people think,” said Zainuddin in his latest blog posting. “In fact, many people are now convinced that The Sarawak Report may have been correct all along in all its reporting.”
In mitigation on behalf of Zeti, Zainuddin said that all these negative happenings in the financial sector was also due to the fact that the Finance Minister, who happens to be Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, isn’t on the ball at all in managing the financial affairs of the nation. “He’s not prudent and, even worse, he’s not wise.”
Zainuddin reiterated that integrity is the issue at stake here since the leak of the Prime Minister’s wife’s personal bank account details reflects on Bank Negara as well. “No doubt that so far, the integrity and reliability of Zeti, as Bank Negara Governor, has been unchallenged and highly respected in the region and worldwide,” conceded Zainuddin. “She has even been named as the best central bank chief in the world.”
However, he added, she’s now being challenged on matters which involves the confidence of the people in Bank Negara as an institution with an impeccable record. “The world is watching.”
Zainuddin confessed, in a water under the bridge moment, that he isn’t sure whether the Prime Minister’s wife, Rosmah, can take unilateral action in the manner she has done. “Can she instruct Bank Negara in this manner in a case which involves her personal affairs?”
“Mustn’t the matter be first weighed carefully by the Prime Minister’s Department before deciding what kind of action to pursue?”
