Shock announcement by crown prince, state secretary named to take over and carry out plans
JOHOR BARU: The Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim today dropped a bombshell, shocking the local football fraternity by deciding to step down as president of the Johor Football Association.
Johor FA honorary secretary Mohd Fahmy Yahya said the state secretary, Ismail Karim, has been named as Tunku Ismail’s successor.
“However, all previous decisions, planning, financial commitments, administration, plans to set up an academy and build a new stadium will go on as planned,” he said in a statement posted on the team’s official Facebook page, Johor Southern Tigers, today.
No reasons were given for Tunku Ismail’s decision, Bernama reported.
The crown prince has been in the media spotlight in recent weeks for remarks criticising political leaders and questioning their integrity. His comments, viewed as an attack on prime minister Najib Razak, earned him a rebuke from former law minister Nazri Aziz who stated that it was improper for royalty to interfere in political matters.
The two men called a truce after a battle of view fought out in the media and on the Tigers’ Facebook page.
