Raub MP scoffs at Najib the preacher

The PM is doing things that will condemn Malaysia to economic and political hell, says Ariff Sabri.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Naji Razak’s attempt to preach righteousness has earned him ridicule from Raub MP Ariff Sabri, one of his most persistent critics.
The DAP man, in a recent blog posting, said one might as well hail Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner as a Christian preacher if one were to accept Najib as an ustaz.
He was commenting on Najib’s speech in Serdang on Friday, in which he quoted a prophetic tradition about the importance of avoiding slander and maintaining unity among Muslims.
“If you instigate people to quarrel, spread slander, create conflict and destroy unity, you are not guaranteed heaven even though you observe all your prayers,” the Prime Minister said. “This is a reminder for everyone,” he added.
Ariff said those who knew Najib well would fall off their chairs to see him put on the mantle of a preacher.
He said he considered Najib to be of the kind of people whom the Quran addresses in Verse 44 of its second chapter: “Do you enjoin right conduct on the people and forget to practise it yourselves and yet you study the Scripture? Will you not understand?”
According to Ariff, Najib is not qualified to give religious advice because the things he is doing as Prime Minister would condemn “the whole of Malaysia to economic and political hell.”
“Corruption is widespread, financial scandals are being exposed one after another, ethnic relations are worsening, Malaysia is drowned in a flood of immigrants, the job of ensuring public safety has been taken over by foreigners, and Najib has allowed religious extremism to fester,” he said.
Ariff said he would not be outdone by Najib when it came to preaching and quoting scripture. He gave another quotation from the second chapter of the Quran, saying the passage describes someone like Najib:
“Among the people there is one whose speech fascinates you in this worldly life; he may even call upon God to witness what is in his heart, yet he is your staunch opponent. And when he leaves you, he directs his efforts towards causing mischief in the land, destroying crops and cattle. And God loves not corruption.” (Verses 204 and 205)
Ariff said the “destruction of crops” had already happened at Najib’s hands with Felda’s destruction, Felcra’s indebtedness, and corruption in the agriculture industry.
As for the “destruction of cattle”, he added, one needed only to be reminded of the scandal surrounding the National Feedlot Corporation.
