Politicians set aside differences to celebrate Raya

Opposition lawmakers and those from the ruling Barisan Nasional are seen attending the Aidilfitri open house co-organised by Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.

KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians from both sides of the political divide were seen attending the Hari Raya open house at Parliament today.

Among them were Lim Kit Siang, Tian Chua, Khalid Samad, Lim Lip Eng and others, clearly defying a decision by Opposition Leader Wan Azizah last week that PKR would boycott all Raya events organised by Barisan Nasional due to the conviction and imprisonment of her husband, Anwar Ibrahim for the crime of sodomy.

The open house event was organised by the offices of the Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia and Dewan Negara president and Select Committee on Corruption chairman Abu Zahar Ujang.

DAP elder statesman Kit Siang was seen shaking hands with Pandikar, a sign of setting aside political differences in the spirit of Aidilfitri.

International diplomats were also at the official event.
