Kit Siang: RCI can account for Najib’s RM2.6 billion

Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM) statement on RM2.6 billion only accounts for fraction of the monies.

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang has called for the special Task Force of four Tan Sri to be replaced by a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) of three Tun to probe allegations against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak among others in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Friday 3 July.
The three Tun, according to Lim, should be former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, his immediate successor Abdullah Badawi and Musa Hitam, a former Deputy Prime Minister under Mahathir.
Lim, who is also DAP Parliamentary Leader and Gelang Patah MP, made the call following a statement, http://cagmalaysia.blogspot.com/, by a pro Barisan Nasional (BN) NGO, calling itself Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM).
“Even if the statement by CAGM is true, most of the sum of RM2.6 billion remains unaccounted for,” said Lim. “The special Task Force should be scrapped immediately and replaced by the RCI.”
“Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who have taken an active role in highlighting the 1MDB issue, could be other members of the RCI Commission.”
Other comments by CAGM make disturbing reading, Lim added. He cited from the NGO’s statement.
Lim pointed out that CAGM chairman Md Zainal Abidin said: “This system of ‘greasing’ the component parties and election machineries (in some cases, mercenaries) were actually put in place by Dr Mahathir and that has allowed BN to remain in power until now.”
“So, in essence, Najib was ‘paying’ to a system that was put in motion by Mahathir to ensure the results are in favour of BN.”
“The harder a victory in the elections appear to be, the more money it requires to secure a win and the 2013 general election was a very high-risk affair for BN after all.”
The CAGM was confirming that Najib had personal bank accounts at AmBank Islamic private banking services and that he disbursed monies from these accounts to Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, RM30 million to RM50 million each to them, and smaller sums between RM1 million and RM8 million to others for GE13.
There is considerable credibility in this statement from the CAGM, continued Lim. “It seems to have a very strange relationship with the powers-that-be, and I believe CAGM is either Umno-supported or even Umno-sponsored.”
The NGO’s statement was interesting in the sense that it blames Mahathir as exposing the very system that he purportedly created to ensure that the ruling BN party could win every General Election. If the special Task Force does not investigate CAGM, questions will be raised.
Other details in the CAGM press statement disclose its theories on how details on Najib’s personal bank accounts were exposed and the person behind it. Other additional details are on Mahathir’s monies and investments.
