IS terror plot in KL foiled
  • Two Malaysians linked to IS detained by police for planning attacks in KL
  • targets western interests and entertainment outlets
  • suspect, 28 arrested by Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism July 2
  • arrest of the second suspect, aged 31 on July 7
  • 28-year influenced by IS since 2012 taking orders from European IS leaders
  • IGP said man close to Ahmad Effendi Manaf, the Malaysian killed in Syria
  • second suspect gone to Syria in 2014  and returned in August same year
  • both suspects held meetings since late last year.
  • IS members  directly taking orders from IS leaders in Syria to launch attacks
  • modus operandi "certainly similar" to Kuwait, France Tunisia last month
  • IGP vowed police vigilant and not let any attack occurr on Malaysian soil.
  • seized books on jihad and several receipts on purchases of tactical gear
My comments : Well for a change this is good news.  Another success for the Police.

At the same time this is not good news. We seem to be preoccupied catching ISIS psychos, fending off religious extremism in branches of government (forcing non Muslims to wear sarongs and pants, going crazy over wombats), handling the 1MDB issue.

There seems to be not much good going on in the country.

  • We are now rated top 10 most corrupt country in the world (by some measures).
  • Our taxi drivers acknowledge they are the worst in the world.
  • We are top five or just top in human traficking in the world.
  • Our education scores are dropping.

Congratulations again to the  Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Unit. Tabik Tuan-Tuan dan Puan-Puan.

Can you imagine what will happen if just one bomb goes off somewhere in KL and people are killed? Our tourism industry will be entirely hijacked by the ninjas from the middle east. Because no one else will come here.

The stock market is dropping. Last week about RM350 million left the country (so people tell me - correct me if this is incorrect).

The Ringgit hit 3.81 two days ago. Today it has strengthened slightly to 3.78. Bank Negara is burning up our foreign reserves to support the Ringgit.

Someone said Singapore and China also support their currency by unloading their foreign reserves. Singapore has done no such thing recently or in the near past.

On the bright side I met a bunch of well connected business types who say Malaysia is still the best country for them in the world. I agree.

Lets keep our eyes on the ball. No fumbling.
