BLACK HAND INVOLVED? IGP lied, Low Yat thief’s friend didn’t start rumours - lawyer
KUALA LUMPUR - The Inspector-General of Police lied when he said the friend of an alleged mobile phone thief spread the rumours that sparked bloody brawls and vandalism at Low Yat Plaza on the weekend, a lawyer claimed today.
Lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, who is representing the companion of a man charged with stealing a mobile phone at the mall, also said police chief was wrong to state that the duo went to a shop to commit theft.
“The actual fact as told by my client is only one went up, the others were downstairs. This is a lie made by Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday,” he told reporters here, referring to his visit to his remanded client at the Dang Wangi lock-up this morning.

Mohd Khairul also described Khalid's remark that the alleged accomplice had spread false rumours that a vendor sold a fake phone to his friend as “prejudicial” to his client.
“So, according to my client's statement, when he was released from police detention, not once did he make media statements, not once did he contact anyone, not once did he contact Papagomo for example to give information about cloned phone,” he said.
Mohd Khairul said he was providing his legal services for free.
