Ariff Sabri: Extradite all ‘lying’ foreigners to Malaysia

The Opposition will not be deterred by the government trying to divert the attention of the people from the 1MDB scandal.

KUALA LUMPUR: Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz, taking to his blog, wants to know from Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and others whether they have conclusively determined that the Sarawak Report expose on 1MDB and related issues was a pack of lies. “All those who have opened their mouths on tampered documents, including Shabery Cheek and Abdul Rahman Dahlan, haven’t seen the original documents.”
If so, he wants to see proof, especially since Zahid is talking about extraditing Sarawak-born Clare Rewcastle-Brown, the Editor of the UK-based Sarawak Report, to face the Court of Law in Malaysia. “Even if Sarawak Report and The Edge did not bring out their expose on 1MDB, the Opposition would still have raised the matter of Jho Low, Nik Faisal Ariff Nik Kamil, Shahrol Halmi, Peter Mahoney, Tarek Obaid, other Pak Arab and others involved in various scandals.”
“Will the Opposition too be accused of interfering in the internal affairs of the country because of raising the 1MDB scandal?”
The Opposition, he pledged, would not be deterred by the government trying to divert the attention of the people from the 1MDB and related scandals through various activities including trying to spark off riots at Low Yat, nabbing Justo, the killing of Hussain Najadi, and the confessions of “a mental patient” in Sarawak. “The crux of the matter is what happened to all the 1MDB billions identified as missing. Then, there’s the matter of RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal banking accounts.”
He pointed out that the critics have identified Najib as being among those involved in wrongdoing including criminal breach of trust (CBT) and abuse of power, money laundering, and corruption. “Those who talk about tampering are lying to the people based on the fact that they haven’t seen the documents, whether original or tampered, and based on the fact that they haven’t proved tampering.”
Ariff doesn’t understand why Zahid wants to extradite only Rewcastle when the editors at the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) may also be “guilty” of the same “crime” i.e. publishing based on “tampered” documents. “To be fair, all the ‘lying’ foreigners who write on 1MDB, like Asia Sentinel, the Economist and others should be extradited to Malaysia.”
“Zahid has talked about investigating Xavier Andre Justo, 49, the former PetroSaudi International (PSI) Director held in Bangkok for unspecified reasons, without mentioning what offence he has committed in Malaysia.”
Ariff wonders whether Zahid will next raise the matter at the United Nations to complain that the international media and certain organisations were destabilising member nations of the world body. “Probably Anifah Aman, the Foreign Minister, will be asked to bring this matter to the attention of the UN.”
