ALL CALM AT LOW YAT: Gathering with 'sticks & machetes' fizzle out

ALL CALM AT LOW YAT: Gathering with 'sticks & machetes' fizzle out
KUALA LUMPUR - All was calm around Low Yat Plaza today, a week after a group of individuals had vandalised mobile stalls here leading to a ruckus by 'protestors' the following night.
A 'scheduled gathering' outside the plaza on the second day of Hari Raya did not take place, as stated in a social media posting, which stated that several NGOs will be present at 5pm in front of the place with sticks and machetes.
The weekend crowd were, instead, more interested to shop for mobile phones and computer accessories.
Police were present around the tech-gadget plaza, screening vehicles passing through the Jalan Bulan 1.
Media personnel and security guards were present around the plaza to observe if anything were to happened.
It is learnt that police were also making their rounds around Berjaya Times Square to ensure no untoward incident occurs.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was reported saying that Low Yat Plaza was safe for the public, with police continuing to conduct patrols around the plaza to ensure the area remains safe.
The police had also dismissed several warnings on social media on racial gatherings which will happen around the city area, slamming those who spread such lies as "irresponsible". - Sundaily
