1MDB prelim report show no mismanagement

Second finance minister Ahmad Husni hopes the report will put baseless allegations to rest

KUALA LUMPUR: The preliminary report of the Auditor-General investigating 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s activities has found no evidence of wrongdoing, said Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.
“Therefore, the reckless allegations by some parties including the ‘disappearance’ of RM42 billion and transfer of US$700 million to a certain individual do not arise.
“It is my hope that all baseless allegations will be put to rest. We have to remain patient, and we look forward to the final report by the A-G and the Public Accounts Committee,” Husni said a statement here today.
Auditor-General Ambrin Buang had presented the preliminary report to PAC chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed at Parliament House.
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had instructed the auditor-general on March 4 to vet the accounts of 1MDB and said then that he hoped the A-G’s findings would put to rest speculation about 1MDB’s activities.
The PAC initiated its own investigation into the government investment company on May 19, after having decided to do so at a special meeting on April 30.
In his statement today, Husni said the focus of his ministry is now on the rationalisation plan, whereby the government is committed to resolving the issues pertaining to 1MDB’s debts.
“The definitive aim of the rationalisation plan is to rebalance 1MDB’s assets and debts in order to support its financial structure that will ensure its sustainability going forward,” he added.
