KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial Penang-born businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who is in the eye of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) storm, has been summoned to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on September 8.
The PAC is also hauling up the directors of Brazen Sky on September 9, a company 1MDB had invested RM6 billion in.
Former 1MDB CEO Shahrol Halmi and current chief Arul Kanda Kandasamy are scheduled to appear before the PAC on August 4 and 5 respectively. The 1MDB’s board of directors will testify on August 17.
Jho Low is a well-travelled man and the PAC chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed said yesterday the letter summoning him before the committee had been sent to the Ministry of Finance.
The ministry is the main shareholder of 1MDB and it “should know his whereabouts or be able to trace him,” said Nur Jazlan.
“It can get the police to locate him,” said Nur Jazlan in a report in The Star Online.
The PAC, a bi-partisan parliamentary committee, began investigating 1MDB in May and has already hauled up ministry officials to explain the ministry’s role in the company.
All the auditors of 1MDB also testified before the PAC in June.
The government-owned 1MDB has run up RM42 billion in debts.
