Why say Pakatan not dead when you destroyed pact, Kit Siang asks Hadi

Why was PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang insisting that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is not dead when he "single-handedly" destroyed the pact by violating the PR Common Policy Framework as well as the PR consensus operational principle, DAP asked today.

Party parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said that as a result of Hadi's actions, the PR Leadership Council was not able to function in the past year, resulting in PR existing only in name.

He also revealed that the PAS president had either refused to attend the PR leadership meetings or had vetoed the decisions taken at the meeting which he did not attend, but where consensus was reached by the leadership of the three parties.

In addition, Hadi had refused to honour undertakings he made at the meetings.

"I find it strange that Hadi is claiming that Pakatan Rakyat is not dead when for the past year he had destroyed the two pillars governing the success of the PR in the 13th general election and without which there could be no PR," Lim said in a statement today.

As such, Lim, who is Gelang Patah MP, also questioned why Hadi insisted that the coalition still exists when Dewan Ulama chief and Johor PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed had said that he did not regret the PAS Muktamar motion to cut ties with DAP, even though it led to the dissolution of PR.

Mahfodz had also reportedly said they were aware of the repercussions when passing the emergency motion during the ulama wing's congress on June 3, which was subsequently adopted by the 61st PAS Muktamar without debate.

But Lim said while the PAS leadership appeared not to be in agreement about the motion passed at the muktamar in relation to DAP, he had no interest in intervening on their different interpretations.

Instead, the veteran party leader hoped that although PR no longer exists, the coalition's Common Policy Framework of national unity, justice and prosperity of Malaysians will remain achievable goals in the next general election.

"Let us move on and keep faith with the hopes of Malaysians for change in the 13th general election to ensure that although there is no more Pakatan Rakyat, the PR Common Policy Framework of national unity, justice and prosperity of Malaysians must remain achievable goals in 14th GE." he added.
