VIOLENT & INCITING BUT IGP SILENT: Penang Umno burns DAP flag, plays up 'Chinese hate Malays' flag
GEORGE TOWN ― Penang Umno handed over a memorandum to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) demanding answers over the removal of its Umno signboard while some disgruntled members set fire to two DAP flags after handing over the memorandum.
The whole incident started with the Umno members, led by Penang Umno secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, gathering at about 10.30am on the ground floor of Komtar, where the DAP-led state government’s office is based.
As Musa went up to the entrance of the state administrative centre on level three, a scuffle broke out when the security guards sealed the door.
Musa and a few other Umno members were allowed in but the door was immediately closed to block the other members, some of whom are Penang Perkasa members, from entering.
Penang Perkasa Youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azuddin started shouting at the security guards to allow some of the reporters and photographers who were also blocked from entering.
“Let the reporters in, we don't want to go in,” he shouted as another Perkasa member banged repeatedly at the metal roller shutters that were down.
Inside, Musa demanded that Patahiyah comes down to receive the memorandum and refused to hand it over to state executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow's personal assistant Lai Hon Meng who was there to accept the memorandum.
He finally handed the memorandum over to a MBPP security officer Mohd Feroze Md Noor.
“We only want MBPP to answer our questions and explain why our structure with the Umno logo in front of Menara Umno was demolished despite us submitting an appeal on June 19,” he said.
Musa, who had repeatedly warned the Umno members to behave politely as it is Ramadan month, left Komtar at about 11.30am and some of the Umno members who remained behind set fire to two DAP flags at the ground floor of Komtar.
The whole issue over the Umno signboard surfaced when MBPP issued a notice to Penang Umno last week to remove the structure which was illegal as they had not applied for permit.
Musa said they submitted an appeal to stop council from removing the structure so that they could apply for a permit.
“They didn't even give us time to apply for a permit and despite submitting the appeal, they came to remove the structure within 24 hours on Friday afternoon,” he claimed.
He accused the DAP-led state government of practicing double standards for immediately removing the structure that has the Umno logo on it without giving them time to apply for permit.
“They gave Gerakan a 30-day period because Gerakan chairman is Teng Chang Yeow, a Chinese, and just because the state Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman is a Malay, they only gave us 24-hour notice,” he claimed.
He now wants MBPP and Patahiyah to explain the unfair action in removing the structure. - Malay Mail
