BUTTERWORTH: Two teenagers were caught in the act of robbing a convenience store in Jalan Bagan Luar here by the police after a public tip-off yesterday.
Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said in the 6.40am incident, police seized some goods and RM54.80, believed stolen from the convenience store, which were found on the teenagers.
“The jobless teenage boys entered the convenience store and ordered the employees not do anything if they did not want to get hurt.
“They managed to grab 17 packets of cigarettes, a large bottle of alcohol, a can of beer and RM54.80 before the police stormed the store,” he said here today.
Abdul Rahman said the suspects, who had no criminal record, would be in remand for four days for investigation.
Meanwhile, in Bukit Mertajam, a convenience store employee was injured after being hit on the head with an iron rod during a robbery at Alma at about 5.15am on Tuesday.
Seberang Perai Tengah acting police chief Supt Baharom Abu said the victim, in his 20s, was working alone when two men walked into the store.
“When the suspects, who were wearing full-face helmets, wanted to leave the store, one of them, who was armed with an iron rod, hit the victim on the head,” he said.
