Sarong gets Liow in knot with Isma

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai has come under fire for threatening to take action against the security guard involved in the infamous "sarong" directive.

Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman said the guard's actions were noble and worthy of praise.

"When a minister wants to hold an investigation and take action against the guard, I think he is suffering from bad morals," he told Ismaweb.

He also criticised Liow over his statement that the Transport Ministry will review the dress code for the public at government offices.

"The current dress code ethics set by government departments for the public follows the values of the Malaysian society," he argued.

'Heinous lifestyle'

Abdullah further explained that as a minister, Liow (photo) should be educated in morals that would help him adopt the right attitude regarding values.

"This is because a minister who acts based on noble values can lift a society from a heinous lifestyle to a more enlightened lifestyle," he added.

On Monday, a woman had posted on Facebook about her experience at an RTD office.

She claimed she was forced to wear a sarong before being allowed to be served at the counters.

Following public outcry, Liow announced that an investigation will be conducted and action will be taken.
