PKR today acknowledged that the Pakatan Rakyat coalition no longer formally existed but indicated it would continue in Selangor and Penang will on an ad hoc basis.
"We are thankful to Allah SWT for the spirit and cooperation of Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor under the leadership of Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, and in the leadership of the Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng (which) continues," said PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
As for the PAS-led Kelantan government, Wan Azizah (photo) said PKR will continue to support the leadership of its Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob.
However, she expressed disappointment at PAS and DAP for the breakup of Pakatan.
"PKR expresses regret on the resolution that was accepted without debate at the 61st PAS muktamar and subsequently the DAP central executive committee’s announcement of the end of Pakatan Rakyat that PKR considers hasty.
"In light of this, the political coalition that is Pakatan Rakyat no longer functions formally," she said.
While the DAP-led Penang coalition appears keen to push PAS out of government, Wan Azizah did not specify details on how the ad hoc coalition in Selangor will work.
However, more light may be shed tomorrow after Azmin returns from his official trip to Kelantan, which among others, was to discuss the demise of Pakatan and future mechanics of cooperation.
Common policy base
He is expected to arrive in Shah Alam later today and is expected to brief the Selangor sultan on the current political situation.
Feedback from the palace is probably why PKR delayed in clearly addressing the matter.
A Selangor PAS leader told Malaysiakini the party had been briefed about PKR's plan for an ad hoc coalition and he was favourable of the plan.
However he said that PAS will wait for a formal announcement before issuing a statement.
"Yes, we met (PKR). We have to wait for them before giving any answers," said the senior leader who declined to be named.
Sinar Harian today quoted Azmin as saying that PKR had in fact already made their stand known through Wan Azizah's statement in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
Wan Azizah had then said that all parties should acknowledged problems within the Pakatan coalition and leaders of the three parties - PKR, DAP and PAS – should use their wisdom in order to strengthen the coalition that adheres to its Common Policy Framework.

A senior PKR leader confirmed to Malaysiakini that they have met PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim at Sungai Buloh prison earlier today and he had given blessing to the decision.
Both DAP and PAS are aware of the decision current Pakatan governments they will no longer be known as Pakatan but as a PKR-DAP-PAS coalition government.

There's no point in this pakatan anymore when PAS has continuously betrayed the pakatan group. BN has succeeded in destroying PKR. To continue will only bring long term pain. Chop it off asap and continue with a new party!
