Revolting truth – 13th general election was rigged!

PM Najib must refute this report or resign otherwise he loses his legitimacy to stay in power saysBersih 2.0.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report which claimed that 1MDB’s funds were used to bankroll Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s campaign in the 13th general election is a shocker.
The report further claimed that it was achieved by having 1MDB make overpriced purchase of power assets from Genting Group in 2012. Genting was then made as a conduit through making a donation to a foundation controlled by Najib before the 13th general election, and the funds were used for campaigning.
The WSJ report comes as a revolting truth of how the 13th general election was stolen from the people of Malaysia.
Bersih 2.0 strongly condemns the manipulation of funds which has been used for Umno’s campaign in the 13th general election. We are even more shocked that this political financing is linked with the controversial IMDB, which is currently under investigation. This is totally outrageous and an abuse of power because brazen dirty tactics have been used to manipulate voters’ trust.
The WSJ revelation of the use of 1MDB and subsequent unaccountability of these funds by the IMDB directors and the Prime Minister seems to imply that IMDB may be used as a government-controlled election slush fund for Umno campaign purposes. It also raised the issue of whether this is just tip of the iceberg. Is there any other government-controlled money used in similar manner?
The fact that this has gone undetected till now showed the failing of our election laws that do not provide better control over excessive political financing and in dealing with electoral corruption. The Election Commission too has failed to bring in the necessary reform to rein in unfettered abuse and corruption.
The Prime Minister must refute this report or resign otherwise he loses his legitimacy to stay in power.
We also call upon the MACC to investigate the WSJ report as well as the Prime Minister and all those involved. Investigations must also be initiated on the Genting Berhad directors and any persons involved in this dealing. They include both executive and non-executive directors and some of them are as follows:
Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay
Chairman and Chief Executive
Tun Mohammed Hanif bin Omar
Deputy Chairman/Non-Independent Executive Director
Mr Lim Keong Hui
Executive Director – Chairman’s Office and Chief Information Officer/
Non-Independent Executive Director
Dato’ Dr R Thillainathan
Independent Non-Executive Director
Dato’ Paduka Nik Hashim bin Nik Yusoff
Independent Non-Executive Director
Tan Sri Dr Lin See Yan
Independent Non-Executive Director
Mr Chin Kwai Yoong
Independent Non-Executive Director
