NO AMOUNT OF COUSINLY LOVE CAN SAVE NAJIB: Time for Hisham to remember his own dad & granddad

The people’s belief until today is that Hishamuddin Hussein is Vice President and Defence Minister, and the only one willing to back Najib Razak all the way, through thick and thin, or whether in a life or death situation, Hisham will be the last person to leave Najib.

It isn’t just because of blood ties, but what was most important was that Najib Razak played an important role in the last UMNO election in ensuring that Hishamuddin got to keep his post as Vice President.

During that time, Najib not only expressed his wishes to several quarters, that he backed Hishamuddin to be a Vice President in UMNO, but with his intervention it was believed that all 11 UMNO divisions in Pahang gave their full votes to Hishamuddin instead of to Mukriz Mahathir, who was his nearest competitor.

In the end, Hishamuddin who was predicted to lose to Mukriz - then the newly appointed Menteri Besar of Kedah, won by a narrow margin coming in third place. The first place went to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Shafie Apdal came in second.

Beholden to couse, but Hisham should also remember his dad & granddad

Hishamuddin Hussein comes from an illustrious family, his grandfather Onn Jaafar was a founder of Umno, while his father Hussein Onn was Malaysia's 3rd prime minister

Since Najib became Prime Minister, Hishamuddin seemed to be his most ardent supporter. There were many rumours that Najib was planning to put his cousin as his replacement when he retires, squeezing out Muhyiddin who is currently in second place, and even Zahid  and Shafie who were next in line in UMNO.

And now with the 1MDB debacle eroding the public support for Najib, day by day and with no clear hope for the future, it seems that even Hishamuddin is now shaking in his seat.

His reaction towards Najib’s ultimatum calling for the cabinet to choose sides, whether they are with him on the 1MDB roadmap or resign if they were against it, shows clearly that Hishamuddin’s loyalty is no longer with his cousin.

Writing on his twitter, Hishamuddin not only did he not express any support for the 1MDB roadmap, he also laid down three conditions for his support.

He would only approve it, if the two conditions were met which were rationalization, and accountability in case there were foul play on the 1MDB issue.

Many have questioned Hishamuddin’s motive, and why is he so brave as to lay conditions to the Prime Minister. Is he trying to distance himself from Najib too?

At the moment, other Ministers are muffling their reaction, preferring to keep a ‘wait and see’ attitude, towards Najib on the rationalization and accountability issue as tweeted by Hishamuddin, and this has caused many to murmur in speculation.

But his stand on twitter has caused many of his supporters to sing praises for his firm stand and action. Is Hishamuddin looking at Najib as a tree about to fall, and he needs to show his own personal stand that he is with the Rakyat and will no longer bow to his cousin, nor willing to bury his future along with his cousin.

Could it be possible that his firm stand was because he has read the actual mood of UMNO members and also that of the Rakyat?

The next after Muhyiddin, Shafie

Before this, only Muhyiddin Yassin and Shafie Apdal had shown clear indications that they were against Najib on the 1MDB issue. Not only did they issue clear statements about their stand, they were also not present during some of the meetings between Najib and the UMNO leadership.

Could these three conditions laid down by Hishamuddin be an indication that he may desert Najib one day soon? Even though they may have blood ties and despite all the assistance that Najib had rendered to his cousin in the past, Hishamuddin may choose to break off with his cousin in order to save his own skin and to preserve his political future
