Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today claimed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had been doing "wrong things" since assuming office in 2009, and offered to "itemise" the list of deeds.
"I can itemise his wrongdoings," Dr Mahathir said today in responding to claims by Najib that Dr Mahathir was merely finding excuses to topple the prime minister.
"He has been doing wrong things for a long time. But I kept supporting him. I even got him back Kedah in the last general elections," Dr Mahathir said today at a  press conference after a forum at the Cooler Lumpur Festival.
"There are a lot more wrong things, but 1MDB I had to speak up because it involves losing government money," he said.
"He thinks if he throws money at people he will become popular," Dr Mahathir said.
"But I know he was not popular," he added.
Dr Mahathir said that he had already stated that Najib must resign if he fared worse in the general election compared to his predecessor Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, but decided to give him another chance until the 1MDB controversy broke out.
The state-owned investment firm sits on a RM42 billion debt racked up in six years since its inception.
"Sovereign wealth is supposed to be excess wealth, not money that you just take from the bank," he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir also said that he would have never resigned from his post if he thought no one was "good enough" to be PM.
However, he warned that Umno might "disappear" if it continues the way it is performing now.
"It has gone through deterioration," he said.
