MAS staff offered re-employment on LOWER salaries

MAS staff offered re-employment on LOWER salaries
KUALA LUMPUR - Many Malaysia Airlines (MAS) staff who received letters offering them a job with the new company were asked to take a pay cut of between 8 and 20%.
A source within the airline said the cuts would leave people in a worse state than they already were.
“It’s a new challenge for the employees and they should be given the incentive to work hard but instead we are penalised with a pay cut.”
The source told The Rakyat Post that if a person rejected the offer, his termination benefits would be worse than the 6,000 that were being laid off.
Another airline source said the main problem was that there would be fewer staff and the positions that were previously available no longer existed.
“With fewer staff, 20,000 down to 14,000, it is very clear that there will be fewer people to manage and It will result in people being demoted because there are now fewer senior positions available.”
Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sole shareholder of MAS, decided to institute changes to stem the losses.
Come September 1, MAS will no longer operate as an airline, with its role to be taken over by a new entity.
The source said every single employee that was being offered was getting an individual offer.
He added it’s hard to say if some people saw their new position as a demotion because it would be up to them to interpret it. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
